Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: Jerryrigging home stereo speakers to my recorder
by Scobe   |   06/13/01 at 20:04:03

Is it possible to connect common home stereo speakers to my Tascam 4 track? The speakers have the little black and red clamp-on wires and the 4 track has the L and R lines out and a 1/4" headphone jack.

And for the record, what IS the difference between studio monitors and home speakers?

You must use an amp, the line out connections on your 4-track connect to a line input on another recorder, amp, or integrated amp, like a home stereo. If you have the speakers, do you have the amp, the thing with the cassette, FM receiver, CD player in it?, If it has a line input, it will work.  Home speakers are not reference quality, but you can still mix on them, over time you will be looking for something better.
