Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: computer not recording correctly
by Joe | 06/13/01 at 15:34:12
Hey, hopefully someone can help me with this problem i'm havin.. I've been recording guitar parts straight through a sansamp into the computer and everythings worked fine until yesterday when for some reason all the recording i did sounded as if the guitar was being recorded live by a cheap tape recorder. The pickups on my guitar seem to be picking up only the sound that is being played through my speakers, (hmmm, i hope i can explain this good enough!!) as well as my voice and the television in the background, etc. The guitar sounds just fine through my speakers when it's being played though. make sense??? So my guitar sounds fine while i'm playing and recording but what is actually being recorded is NOT fine. i know my pickups are picking up secondhand noise and the sound coming out of the speakers because when i turn my speakers off while recording, only the television in the background and the sound of my pick hitting the strings gets recorded (no distortion)! heh.. so i don't know if this is a problem with my guitar, or with the sansamp, or with the computer, or what, but i know it happens no matter what piece of software i use.. So any help would be great! Thanks!

You don't have a mic switched on anywhere do you? Like a multimedia mic that came with the PC?

Why are you recording with the television on?
