Subject: GUILT -- LYRICS AND AUDIO
by Tink and Tom Guertin | 06/13/01 at 05:46:31
Good Morning
Below you will find the link and lyrics to one of the most important songs I've been involved with. Many of you will remember the recent song posted called "Oh Isabelle" which was a song about a man who was desperately trying to help his mate battle an eating disorder. That song, to me, is equally important to that one, on a very personal level. In the course of writing and posting that one, my friend Tom Guertin became interested in hearing an interpretation on this subject from a different point of view, the point of view of the woman suffering from the disorder. As difficult as it was to face the demons, it became a cathartic experience to share the most personal details of it all. This experience has been an emotional journey of discovery, pain, but most of all... healing. I hope you will take a listen to what we hope will help the hundreds of thousands of people suffering from the many times hushed and shameful disorder.
Tom and I wish to thank Bill Scull of ScullSound for the absolutely
fantastic demo, including a great performance by Eileen Balzano on lead
vocals. The original is so good, it's radio quality. Many of you know of
Bill's production skills, but if you haven't used his services, do yourself
a favor. Cindy and Tom
Here's the link and the lyric. All comments welcome!

Lyric by Cindy Miller
Music/Melody by Tom Guertin
(Verse)
I hate it when you drill me
Have I eaten yet today?
I know my clothes hang far too loose
Must you know how much I weigh?
(Verse/Build)
The bloodshot of my eyes
Tells all you need to know
Force myself to clean my plate
Now I must run to let it go
(Chorus)
Guilt...
I can tie a piece
To each bite I take
Guilt...
I can't tame the beast
I know it's all a mistake
I feel that I'm not worth the things
I know I need to heal
Guilt is what tomorrow brings
Another day to fear a meal
(Verse)
Some days are worse than other's
When I won't down a thing
And when I cramp with hunger pangs
I feel my actions are redeemed
(Verse/Build)
When you hear deceptive noise
From beyond the bathroom door
It's just my demons controlling me
Nothing less and nothing more
(Chorus)
Guilt...
I can tie a piece
To each bite I take
Guilt...
I can't tame the beast
I know it's all a mistake
I feel that I'm not worth the things
I know I need to heal
Guilt is what tomorrow brings
Another day to fear a meal
(Bridge)
I wrestle daily with my shame, but
Please don't feel that you're to blame
'Cause when I'm in that darkest hole
The love you give feeds my soul...
(Chorus)
Guilt...
I can tie a piece
To each bite I take
Guilt...
I can't tame the beast
I know it's all a mistake
I feel that I'm not worth the things
I know I need to heal
Guilt is what tomorrow brings
Another day to fear a meal
(Tag)
God damn guilt

Well, Well, Well,
Let me be the first to offer the required superlatives for a fantastic job all the way around. First to Cindy for a great lyric. Then to my buddy Tommy G. for some great matching music. Eileen did a phenomenal job of pulling off the emotion vocally as did Bill Scull with a superior production effort. My hat(if I wore one) is off to you all. A job to be really proud of. We won't be hearing anything on the radio any better(unless I happen to get a cut out.....just kidding). Great job. Proud of all of you.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!
I was kinda waiting around for Tom to jump in since this is essentially a board he probably posts on more than I, but Steve, I just wanted to thank you for your kind words and encouragement on this song. It's really incredible how it all came together quite quickly once Tom and I worked out the lyrics. He really is the one who is owed the biggest thanks. If it weren't for his urging, I wouldn't have done the work necessary to put the demons on the page. The man is also a musical genius, and the rough original unplugged version with his vocals will forever by my favorite. He sang that song with such emotion, I was very moved.
Thanks Steve,
Tink

Steve, buddy -- you know that coming from you it means tons to me -- and Cindy too I know for a fact -- 'cause like me, she's a real fan of yours. 'Twas nice to see/hear the work of you and Chad another time. I took a listen a short time ago, and as always, you're a master -- as is Chad. Boy, you, Chad, me and Cindy are really making music together, eh?
Cindy and I have been working on this for almost two months now in total. Bill and Eileen blew us away with this. You know us musician/production guys (you for sure, me a wannabe ;D ). This song as a special meaning for both of us. I won't repeat it all here, so if you don't mind, take a gander at my post at JPF or TWS. Thanks again m'man.
Over and out (for now).
Tommy G.

Well, I'm definitely disappointed about missing the progression of the collaboration/production. Was Tom's version aired here? I wasn't around for quite a while.
Anyway. this is solid! which is my way of saying that it sounds like it aught to be on the waves, now.
Gotta run - but just glad I popped in this morning!!!
Kudos all around!
