Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: No microsoft Volume Panel-Help!!!!

This is kinda strange, but now I have my audiophile 2496 loaded and delta logic software, it wont let me open volume control panel and its as if the sound recording on microsoft
will not run because this has been disabled, I only have the audiophile and now total recorder driver listed under sound devices in system. Could it be that I must disable one to use the other? If so will it change my sound recording quality?
Maybe this has something to do with irq?

Try this:
Go to you your start menu/programs/accessories/entertainment/volume control
That should at least show your volume panel. Then you can see if you have all the right boxes checked etc. You should also be able to access the volume controls for your other audio cards in there. (at least I always have.) If your devices don't show any conflicts in the system/devices manager, you might have an irq conflict. Not all irq conflicts will be shown as a conflict. In your system/devices manager, right click on "computer" and all of your irq's should show up. You'll probably have quite a few that are shared. Then it's a matter of playing around with reserving irq's for devices that can't share an irq. fun fun fun.

Ok JR, I have gone and re-installed all multimedia but I can tell you that this is MENTAL!! i cannot get volume panel to execute..which can only mean that my soundcard must completely control this function. I have just Put in Cubase and having found its internal controls for volume etc, have opened up every channel (any possible way)of input output and hey, I still cant hear the vocal track or control volume of something I cant hear (or record)...if theres a mute button on it would not let me hear everything else...I am greatful for your help here...cause I am really getting sick of the technician cancelling my home visit!! He says I can pick him up in the morning, if he's not careful..I'll run him OVER!! :)
Shall let you know how it goes...if you dont hear from me, Im in jail....(now thats not very angelic like-sorry)

well that was a waste of $75.00...he doesnt know either LOL
but I have now got sound...lot of fiddling about with every thing that could be changed, turned plugged etc. I found that by putiing back my soundblaster card, as a secondary card, I can play all my realplayer/winamp files straight to speaker...and by installing sb live card, I now have volume control panel back...so I record/play with one card and listen only with soundblaster. I dont think I want to fiddle anymore so it shall stay like that until I master Delta software and cubase. (cubase being alot easier to understand/follow :)
