Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: Brother Ben

This is a subject of much saddness...
I have further verses but choose to leave them out here
Brother Ben
(c)2001
He turned his head and said adieu
And I watched as he walked away
My heart was pounding
My hands perspired
The tension was melting away
As the door closed and lock clicked
Relief took over my body
My taut face relaxed
My shoulders dropped
I murmured a soft outward sigh
Leaden and indignant
Head bowed down as I walked
Feeble and nervous as I tried to talk
Trodden once, but n’ver again
At the hands of Brother Ben
Years have not softened
The blows of the hand
Nights have not lightened
For fear of this man
But now as my witness
My son oh so brave
Has stood as a man
And sent to his grave
The past of all evils
The devils best friend
The cowardly liar
The dishonorable Brother Ben

Good call on keeping this elegant length. This level of emotion is best presented briefly ... sustaining it would only be wearying. This reminds me of one of my favorite Al Jarreau ballads (completely different subject, of course, but similar lyrical/structure approach), "Not Like This".
With your voice ... there won't be a dry eye in the house by the time the last notes of this one fade away. Great stuff.

Is it Brother Ben as in some sort of clergyman? Or Brother Ben as in sibling? Either way, very nice piece of work. E-mail me the complete version and I'll see what I can do with it. I might have a start on something that would work perfectly.
