Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: What's wrong with my computer?
by Tyler   |   06/07/01 at 18:47:47

My computer skips when I record the guitar part on top of the drums and then when I play it back, it's off beat with the drums (or whatever is on the track). And when I was recording, the skip would happen but I'd continue the rest of the song on time. Is it the leangth of the song (10 min.) or my computer speed (166 mhz. and 24gigs ram)? I have it set to 16 bits resolution and I record in stereo. does it have something to do with the buffer (I'm not sure what all that means though). Any help? Thanks

Tyler

You mean 24megs of ram, right?
Dude, upgrade your computer, it's choking. :P
You need at least a PII450 with 64megs to get something half decent going.

Dan's right, when I get into 5 imutes of record time but have 30 or so files sitting in memory in my wav box, it chokes..not anymore, I have reallocated more space to that partition as well, check all your settings!
