Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: Alesis?
by Davey | 06/07/01 at 00:31:51
I'll skip all the crap. I've been looking all over for the new hd24 recorder and have turned up nothing at all. First I heard it would be out by May, then June, now I'm hearing next March, if ever. It pisses me off that catalogs are advertising this, but that's another story. Now to my question. Today I heard from someone whose relatively connected (who heard it from someone else, therefore said this wasn't for sure) that Alesis is (somehow) in some serious financial turmoil and is supposedly being bought by digidesign. It made sense once I heard it, seeing how ADAT's have plummeted in price (I saw an ad the other day, an ADAT xt for $999) not to mention some substantial markdowns on just about everything else in their product line. The new musicians friend doesn't have an Alesis product in it! The question I really have is, does anyone else know if there's any validity to this? I was really looking forward to the HD24, but I'll be opening a studio this summer, and this peice was perfect for me, but I really don't have time for some long turnover for the sake of putting a different name on this, (side aside the fact that I, and most people can't seem to say for a fact this will ever be available) and I'll have to look elsewhere if any of this is true.
Just thought I'd ask......
Rock out,
Dave

You haven't been following the news on Alesis very well. They filed for Chapter 11 a few months back and have been bought out by Numark. Alesis is now back in business, in a rebuilding stage, and have promised (but don't hold your breath) delivery of the HD24 in stores by the end of July.
You can check out the HD24 at this link:

Check out the recent article at Harmony Central regarding the purchase of Alesis by Numark:

I am hoping that they still deliver it at the price originally offered, $1995 US. There was also a VERY favourable review of the HD24 by Roger Nichols at his forum. If you do a search there you should find it. He loved it and said he could not find any difference between the HD24 converters and his Apogee converters. Now that's surprizing :D
I'm anxious for one as well, but I will be sure to wait a year or so for them to be out and fully operational (i.e all the bugs worked out).
Cheers
