Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. Any one out there own a TEAC X-1000R ? Or something similar ?
I'm looking at possibly replacing a motor. Is this difficult? Are the motors expensive?
Thanks

I replaced a take up motor on a tascam 38, and a capstain motor on a 32, wasn't tough at all, motor unplugs from board, and then there were locking screws for the turntable to lift off, and the motor mount screws were underneath, then the turntable is replaced, guage that with something for proper clearence. If it is the capstain motor, order a new belt as well, and you will also need a strobe disk, to reset the speeds, but only if it is the capstain motor. There is a mounting bracket, that holds the flywheel against the bearing, be carefull not to loose the small parts. Also the capstain motor might have the servo drive attached (electronic board that regulates speed). Removal of the flywheel is how you get the new belt on after installing the new motor. Contact Tascam for your parts. Might be a good time to replace the pinch roller puck as well.
Hope this helps,
