Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. I finally got the script done and even have a couple of songs uploaded. No subt's yet tho :'( SB and I should get the rest of them uploaded soon.
As this is a new script I'd appreciate it if you would let me know how well it works. And if you find any bugs.
Never Mind! I'm taking all the SubT stuff down for now (cept the board). If there is enough interest I may put it back.
Take care,
Dan

Ok so you didnt tell me how to upload?????

The songs don't play back completely; that's my experience. Played about 1:30 of JR#97's song and only a few seconds of the other two. :(

Thanks Liana and Jon. But check out the modification to my original post.
For Liana - I've got the code to upload files, wrote it originally for REAP. But REAP died so I never did much with it.
For Jon_B - don't know why it truncated the mp3's. Like I said in my original post, it's a new script. I'll look at the code again tho. If and when I put it back it would be nice to have it working right :)
I had hoped to get more comments. I really appreciate it whenever I do something new. Thank you for helping out.
Take care,
Dan

Why aren't you doing the SubT stuff? I think a lot of people would be interested in that. I've been waiting forever to get a listen to subs I & II. I have a cassette copy of each, but it would be nice to get at least an mp3 version.

You can read this post for why.
But the mp3's from subt 1 + 2 (and 3+4 too) were onsite until we moved to the new server in late Feburary. Why didn't you download them then.
And I don't think a lot of people are interested in the subt stuff. I keep track of pageviews, lenght of visit, etc. and the subt pages were getting maybe 1 or 2 hits a day. Doesn't seem like an overwhelming response to me.

They were onsite? doh! I guess I never noticed. I've been checking the new site regulary for updated subt stuff for the past few months. I never did see the write ups for Subt V. If people aren't interested then I agree on why bother. If someone has write ups for V, I'd love a copy.

Too bad. They are missing a lot of good tunes!
I mean I have a great time recording them and have met some great people but right now it makes me wonder why I bust my ass to do SubT's if nobody listens to them. >:(
What about Sub T 7? I mean, I thought at least the Freedom Exchange folks would want to check that out. How are they gonna get to do that? :-/
As far as taking them down, what's the harm of leaving the mp3's up even if traffic is low? Is it a space issue?
IMHO SubT recordings have been the most fun thing about our little community. I hope the people that come here give it a try and if old dan ever goes to the trouble of putting the mp3's, descriptions, recording notes and all the other stuff I was proud of back up, I hope that some of you will at least check it out. :'(

Hey Guys
Too bad about the sub t stuff. I can tell by Old Dans tone that he is getting stressed out again. Right now I cant afford to change my mind BUT Im gonna go get a new mega gig hard drive and put the whole Sub T collection on it and email them to who ever wants ( I got adsl) Kinda fast. I will look into getting a website where I can put up all the subt stuff thereby eliminating some of O.D.s stress. As far as the new downloads, Dan, I couldnt get them to work at all. I tried on a friends computer, of course it was the same computer that couldnt download any subt stuff last year so maybe Im off base there, I dunno. The reason I didnt email you about the new downloads was, I didnt get no response from you when I told you about the sub t stuff last year. I know your busy.
JR#97...gimme a few days and Ill get you Sub one and Two(get me that Sub 4 so I can put in on the soon to be purchased drive). This is your site to do with as you wish Dan but the sub t's belong to everyone so I dont need your permission. Hope you dont mind. Things are getting waaaaay to complicated here.
Later
Percy

I think SB has the writeups for V. And he should have the original waves for II. If he doesn't I've got them, complete with cool edits pk files. And the infamous Autumn Jam :)
Plus I'm pretty sure I have at least the SubT I mp3's. At least I did :) Let me know if SB can't get them for you. Personally I would trust SB's SubT II stuff more.

I agree to a point. Mostly I do SubT's for fun and I have learned a lot from them. I have no delusions or illusions that I'm ever going to make a difference in the world of music. But I have heard some extremely exciting music from the SubT cds. Like your Sixth & Main, Tedsters Waiting for You, Percy's Christmas by Wire, Ron & Joe's Radio Star, the list goes on. I can relate more to making pages for this site. I put a lot of time and effort into this site and sometimes it's hard not to take it personally.
What about Sub T 7? I mean, I thought at least the Freedom Exchange folks would want to check that out. How are they gonna get to do that?
telepathy? Seriously, I'm fixing to get ready to post a more complete explanation of why I took out the SubT pages.
As far as taking them down, what's the harm of leaving the mp3's up even if traffic is low? Is it a space issue?
space isn't the issue. We have more now than with DS. But the mp3's were never up on this site. I tried using telnet to ftp to DS and copy the files over but either this site or DS wouldn't allow it.

First off, I'm not getting stressed out again. I have never stopped being stressed out.
You know, I can give you a url to upload the mp3s to this site. If you wouldn't mind doing that I'd appreciate it. Email me and I promise I'll answer.

Sorry for not answering, I meant to :) But (and this is for anyone who reads this) I need to know if something doesn't work. In fact, I would rather hear if something doesn't work. It could be a problem on the users end, the server or somewhere inbetween. I don't know unless someone tells me. It's not that hard to put up a post that says, 'didn't work'.
This is your site to do with as you wish Dan but the sub t's belong to everyone so I dont need your permission. Hope you dont mind. Things are getting waaaaay to complicated here.
As Ed McMahon would say, 'You are correct sir!'. Actually if you remember the SubT's were distributed by the participants. Someone would ask, 'Hey can I have a copy', someone else would respond, 'sure, send me a couple of bucks to cover s&h'. When I got the new site one of the requirements was enough disk space to keep the subt mp3s onsite. To make it easier for folks to get them. But swapping cd's is still a better way. Folks get the true (uncompressed) song. Which in the case of Autumn Jam may or may not be a good thing :)
And of course you don't need my permission. Although, you should have asked my advice before it started to hurt when you pee. I'll try to be discreet here, but just because a woman is alone at a truck stop doesn't mean she needs company. ;)
okay, I've got another post to write and then I think I'll go play Doom.
Take care,
Dan

I got my degree in Smartass at Peking University (PU). I studied under Uriel Smart, Wendy Shoofitz and the master baiter himself - Dick Hungwell.

My father went to P.U. (Pittsburg University) but I think for the most part they called it Pitt. In Either case they must have had interesting pep rallies ;)

I'd like to thank you all for responding. Unfortunately a little negativity stepped in >:(. But the excellent folks here responded rather well. I appreciate it and thank you.
Specifically,
JR#97, you said what was needed and said it well. Thanks.
Kevin, I'm pretty sure your mp3 site does have the correct links. I have no problem with your old site. Cept maybe that fire gif :)
Percy, get some sleep :) Seriously, I hope we're cool. I have never felt anything but pride when you comment on my music.
Gary, I feel sorry for you, you had to jam with me. :)
Jim, yes, there is love in this room, just sometimes not so easy to see.
Now don't get mad at me, I'm going to rip out a bunch of posts. Or depending on when you read this, I've already taken them out. I think we've had about as much fun as we can stand with this thread.
I would like to make a few points meself tho:
About the board: There are things I like about the new board and things I don't. Just like the old board. Both have their good and bad points. All in all tho, I prefer this one. So don't expect any changes any time soon.
REAP - :'( nuff said.
The Members Page - Don't give up hope. All the old member pages are still up at http://coolbeans.8m.com/
I may or may not transfer them over here. Please don't ask me to update them tho :)
On my todo list is to write a php program that folks could use to put up their own page. But it won't be this week, or even next. It's more on the wish list than the todo list.
The equipment reviews - yeah, I wish we had more. If anyone has any ideas on how to get more activity on them I'd be glad to hear them.
SubT downloads and pages - it's still up in the air. ~sigh~.
One final thing, I don't like coffee. Jolt is much better.
Take care,
Dan
