For those of you who've wanted to get in on the series "Subterranean Recordings" but have been left out due to the rules of that particular challenge, now's you're chance. Sub-T 8 will have no restrictions for style, technique or collaboration. Collaborations are not requred but encouraged as always. If you want to get in, start posting. Those of you who want to collaborate should start looking for partners now.

I'm in JR if you guys are. I also am trying to hook up with Darren Stroud on this thing too. Maybe we could let him in the fold to play lead?

I'm already collaborating with somebody but I guess it won't hurt to be on 2. (shoot I was on 3 in vol #2).

so . . . what is the "theme" etc for SubT 8???
Or is that up for discussion?
Whatever it may be . . . I'll get in on this one.

there is no theme. Hence the name "back to basics". I've been composing a list of Sub-T ideas as they are suggested and the time has come for another album in spirit of the first one which had no rules. There will be another one like this down the line but there's at least another 6 or so proposed ideas that will come first.

Hey Steve, I want in too. Where do we send the entry and how much cash? If it looks like a big project, I would volunteer to do the duplication.

Howdy all,
I'd be interested in doing some sort of collab with someone on this. I've got a lyric right now called (new title) "That Lonesome Road" which is aching for some musical help. I've got some "pretty good" chord progressions for it and a decent melody, but it needs help in the bridge/chorus.
If anyone is interested, and needs lyrics for the project, let me know. They are posted in a thread on The Freedom Exchange, but I'm not sure if the lyrics there are the final version or not. They are pretty close though.
Actually, I'll just post them here and if any one likes them, let me know. The only thing I'm not real happy with now is the bridge/chorus, some of the terms seem a bit cliche to me, but otherwise I think the lyric is pretty solid. It's up for grabs...for a while.
That Lonesome Road
©2001 Curtis Cameron
V1
Don’t you ever grow tired (boy)
Of walkin' that dusty road?
Don't you ever grow weary (man)
Of searchin' for a home?
You've left a dozen lives behind
As if they weren't enough
The sun goes down behind your eyes…
While you… still search… for love …
V2
How many times have you settled down
And built on shifting sands?
How many towns have you made your home
Then left, a wounded man?
I've heard you say, your time has come
But your shadow's grown too long
The wind is blowin' at your back…
And it sings… your lonesome… song…
Bridge
That Lonesome Road’s a highway to another token start
That Lonesome Road’s a bi-way to another broken heart
You tell yourself your movin' on, to find that greener grass
The truth is your still runnin' from the remnants of your past
V3
I’ve seen the pain behind your eyes
Know you hunger for a home
I know you hide your deepest fear …
Someday you’ll die alone
The truth is that we’re all the same
You’re not the only one
The love you seek is here at home
You won’t find it… on… the run…
V4
Dont' you ever grow tired (boy)
Of walkin' that dusty road?
Don't you ever grow weary (man)
Of searchin' for a home?
You tell yourself your movin' on
To find that greener grass
The truth is your still runnin' from
The remnants of your past
Bridge
That Lonesome Road’s a highway to another token start
That Lonesome Road’s a bi-way to another broken heart
You tell yourself your movin' on, to find that greener grass
The truth is your still runnin' from the remnants of your past

I think these lyrics are very good, maybe an adjustment in the 3rd and 4th line of the chorus would really push these lyrics over the top.
Do you know what you want the song to sound like or are you open to someone elses arrangment?

Re: Sub-T 8 project has officially begun.
Hi Jim,
I agree about the third and fourth line. I also feel "broken heart" may need replacement...maybe.
I do have an idea for the song, and so far I really dig it, but I am also open to some one else's arrangement. My biggest concern would be that the music and production truly capture the mood of the lyric.
If you or anyone else is interested, I could do a rough recording of what I have so far and send it to you. It may spark some ideas. I do like what I have for it musically, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved. I know for certain the bridge needs music as my chord vocabulary and understanding of music theory is too limited to create a fresh variation there so far. I could probably hammer it out over time, but I also love to collaborate, and I'm no composer, so I don't mind leaving that portion of songwriting to the experts. :)
If nothing else, I could e-mail the chord progessions as they are in the song to any one who is interested.
Thanks Jim, for the comments here.
Talk to you soon,
