Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: HELP!! Sound through speakers~NOTHING Recording!
by Rene'   |   06/03/01 at 04:32:34

I hope someone can help me!!  I have recorded MANY times from my DVD player, turntable, etc. but I've apparently forgotten how (or I'm doing something wrong!!)  I even went out and bought a new cable today thinking something was wrong with the old one, but to no avail!

I have the red and black jacks in the R and L audio out jacks on the back of the DVD.  I have two inputs into my sound card (a third is where the speakers go in).  I have tried BOTH jacks, and you can hear the audio coming through the speakers; however, NOTHING records!  The line is flat (no sound obviously getting through to the recorder).  I have made sure nothing is muted on my volume controls in playback or recording.  I have tried using only one audio out jack, both, switching them, etc.  Again, I can hear it through the speakers fine but it's just NOT getting in to record!  I have tried Adaptec Spin Doctor, plain windows Recorder ~ even if you try to record, you just get blank air.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?  Could something be conflicting?  The only thing new I may have added after the last time I recorded is a new mouse ~ can't imagine why that would make a difference.

I'M AT A LOSS HERE!!

Thanks in advance,
Rene'

Hello; Right click on the speaker icon, on the sartup bar, click
adjust audio properties, click on recording icon, check inputs, then click on options, see if sound card name shows up, and click on any changes, like adding line input etc. Check the playback in the same way.
hope this helps a little,

Hi DB!

I tried that ~ on Playback and Recording, I checked ALL the boxes, just to be sure.  Any other ideas?

Open the sound recorder (windows), open the mic, record from the onboard mic, if you have one. If no wave file is being made, then maybe reinstall the audio drivers. Thats about all I have to offer, good luck,
