O.K., I'm an idiot. And i know that i'm opening the door WIDE open to ridicule and other assorted verbal assaults, but you know what, I dont care anymore. I've been playin' around with Cool Edit Pro for about 3 weeks now, and i still haven't figured out how to record a single stinkin' track yet. O.K., start laughing. Done? Good! Now, will someone please take the time to give me a step-by-step tutorial on how to make this thing work? Please do not assume that i know where the "settings" menu is, or that i already know how to capture regions, and group tracks,...cuz i dont. i barely know how to turn my computer on! Now, with that in mind, i know how to show multi-track screen and waveform screen on my computer, and that's about it. Every tutorial i have seen invariably leads me to say, "does everyone already know this stuff?" cuz i dont even understand the terms they use in the beginners guide! If anyone out there can just please tell me how to actually record my first note, i will in turn let you ridicule me publicly and humiliate me until it's just not fun for you anymore. I will consider this MORE than fair. If you would rather leave me an e-mail than respond here, feel free. This whole thing has been so frustrating, that i can't possibly see how people consider this fun, and it has nearly brought me to tears. Please, i beg of you, help me.................

I agree with BH. Some people are made for DAW use while others just need knobs and logical set-ups. If I didn't have my ADATs (or something similar) and a real mixer with knobs, I would take up golf or something else. 8)

There are some excellent downloadable "video" tutorials at the Syntrillium website. Try those. They SHOW what button to push, which menus to use etc. Also, the help menu has step by step instructions. I don't know what to tell ya if those still don't work. Enlightenment takes time and patience Grasshopper....
Maybe you could me call and we can try it over the phone. ;D

You're not an idiot, and I don't hear anyone laughing. People post here all the time with p.c. problems. This software won't work with that o.s., data crashes, etc. And there are so many different software programs, it's difficult to find someone who's familiar with yours. Sorry I can't be of more help.
JR#97 and BananaHead offered the only really useful posts so far; maybe someone else will post.

I don't how many others found the humour in this,but I thought it was absolutely hilarious.
Mainly because I know exactly what your talkin' about.
Recording can be infinitely frustrating,even when you know your recording medium inside out.
It really can be fun though,too.
You said that you barely know how to turn your computer on.(i assumed that you were being a little sarcastic)Nonetheless,it seems you've got too much stuff to learn all at once,regarding terminalogy e.t.c.
I would concur with the others and say get something with knobs.
You get instant results,be it good or bad.
But at least you know.
Three weeks huh?

okay, here you go. First to record you need to have some sounds. Can you play music thru your pc speakers from an outside source? If not read [url=http://www.recordingwebsite.com/articles/pc-recording.html]this article[/url]
If you are getting your music into the computer here's how to record in Cool edit. Press the record button. It's located on the bottom left of your screen and looks like this;

I've circled the record button.
In multitrack mode you have to arm the tracks for recording. click on the red button beside each track.

then click on the record button mentioned above. Hope this helps cuz I really want to make fun of you ;D

I guess this is the downside of using cracked software, no manual.
Or maybe the guy has the manual, but he's too lazy to read it? :o

The CEP manual is basically word for word the same as the help menu. And it's downloadable in PDF form from the CEP website.

Je ne suis pas sûr ce qui est le problème. Vous penseriez qu'avec le menu et les cours d'instruction d'aide, ce quelqu'un pourrait enregistrer quelque chose... en 3 semaines??? Est mon aweful français ou ce qui, brah. :P 8) ;D

I agree because, I have to have portability for now since I get asked to record a lot of live stuff... which is an animal all of its own and I learn more every time I go out. I still use the PC for editing down to stereo tracks to master, mainly because its more powerful on PC than my little mini-disc 4 track. I hope all of that will change when I upgrade to a 16+ track hardrive portable...
