Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. Subject: tape line in/out questions
by MeMeMe | 05/12/01 at 16:42:13
I want to make a live demo by hooking a tape recorder up to my PA. I've got a Sony D6C recorder that has a single input called "line in" and a single output called "line out." My Crate PX series PA has dual inputs marked "tape in" and "tape out," that is, each has a white and a red input/output. Do I just need to get an adapter? Or are these pieces of equipment incompatible?

So, are the IN/OUT's on your PA right and left stereo and input on your tape machine mono? If so you can get a 'Y' cord adapter at Rat Shack that will combine the stereo to mono.
OR
Are you looking at stereo IN/OUTS with separate jacks on the PA and a single stereo INPUT jack on your tape machine. (Example: A separate right and left RCA type jack on your PA and a 1/8" stereo mini-jack on your tape player) Take a good look at what kind of IN/OUT jacks you have and then see what kind of patch cords you can find on the wall at RADIO SHACK.
The equipment should be compatable- you just need the right kind of patch cord in-between.
