Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

When should I track a rythm section all at once (drums bass rythm gtr} and when should I track things individually? what is better ? what is worse? what is the right thing to do? what type of band is this good for? not good for?

Depends on the feel you're going for, and how well the players know how to feel each other out while playing together.
If they've never played together before, and have just been assembled for recording purposes, I'm not sure whether it would make a difference if they were recorded separately or not. If they've played together for a long time, I'm sure there'd be a chemistry you'd want to try and capture recording them together.
My bands first disc was recorded with everyone coming in at different times. One of the guitar players didn't even meet the sax player until the night of the disc launch!
Our next disc will be recorded together as much as possible. ;)
