Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

There has been a lot of discussion around here of late tha the vets tend to ignore the newbies. I notice that a lot of the newbs tend to flit in here, ask a bunch of questions, get a few answers, and then we never hear from them again. It would be nice to know whether or not people's suggestions made any difference to their problems.  ::)

Well some people don't want to make a commintment they just want some answers. Then when they get what they need they go record.

And a lot of us learn more by reading other peoples posts. Maybe we don't articlulate how much we appreciate the help but I for one have always benefited from the posts I've read.

I realize I'm not a vet (I don't even like animals) and maybe shouldn't even be responding. But common courtesy is something that is disappearing in all facets of life. The Internet just aggravates the situation. It's easy to be rude when all you are is a cute handle on a message board. For instance, do you know who I am? I could tell you to kiss a troll but I won't. ;D Instead I want to thank you and all the others who have helped me in the past.

Thank you!

Kiss a troll?
Maybe.
Kiss your "precious"?
Not a chance! ;D

You're thinking of Gollum.  ;D I'm the guy that threw the ring away and saved the world. I'm sure there's some sort of moral there.

you know what I don't understand is why more people don't post. There's like 200 members and probably more than that who just read. Surely they have something to say.

Neither do I. According to WebStats there were 450 people here yesterday. I too am sure they have something to say (and don't call me Surely).

Maybe a good chunk of the people who visited, found answers either in the articles, reviews, or archives? Just a thought.... oh yeah... the eagles are coming! the eagle coming!

Having been a newbie on this site and new to putting together my own studio...I have nothing but good to say about this site and many of the fine responses I have gotten to my questions.

When I respond to many posts, I like to point folks to the wealth of articles found on this site and the related links to perhaps encourage those with certain questions to learn and and gain an understanding to one either have a more specific question or to have new avenues of thought opened up.

It really is the old saying, give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach the man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

It seems some come here just looking for an opinion or a shortcut to experience and learning, others come with issues in need of solution, others maybe looking for someone to help them make a decision before buying. I guess this site has all sorts and you can usually tell who is serious and who is not. Face it when somebody posts, "I want to record my band what kind of equipment do I need" you can just about be sure that they have not looked at any articles, read about the subject or even read the plethra of other posts asking the same question. In that case I suppose there might be a hestancy to respectfully address that post unless you are trying to get more stars.

My real hope for this site is that it continues to grow into a site where questions can be asked and information shared that is sincere and knowledgable, where engineers and recording enthusiast come for not only the sharing but the comradery. That would be professional but not cliquish. I have tried so many other sites and this one stands well above the rest this regard, especially with it's openness and in the welcoming of newbies by answering their posts.

And for those that stop by this forum:
I echo the thoughts, you have something to contribute whether novice or pro even if it is a comment and not a question. I would love to read a post that says "I just picked up the new AT3035 mic and I love it here is why" so I could ask a question about the mic, just I would love to answer a post "I am looking at the AT4033a and should I buy it."

I also feel as stated above that many of the 200+ or even the 450 that Dan mentioned found their answers with out having to ask the questions. These are probably the folks with alot to contribute because they are learners and perhaps even some could be teachers.
