Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Why?
What kind of message are you trying to send?

It seems that a machine that could capture subliminal messages would prove highly useful with women. However, I can't say that a device of that sort would be of much use for capturing whatever is going on in my head. All it would hear is "Peter Gunn" playing over and over. After all, I've always wanted to be a secret agent...

A few years ago I did some mastering on a bunch of subliminal tapes. Are you trying to "mask" the messages or just have affirmation type messages heard with back ground music? There are also ways to use brain-wave signals combined with music and/or other sounds for further enhancement.
I'm not exactly how the "masked" messages worked. I believe they coded the messages into white or pink noise, which can sound like ocean waves on the shore, and then mixed it in with recorded ocean wave sounds. Cool Edit Pro has the ability to generate brain-wave signals of different oscillations and then combine it with other .wav sources. Like I said, it's been a few years, but I may be able to find from some of my former collegues who had done the initial "masking".

Thank You for the reply YaBB,
I don't really want to blend them, I guess I'd like to "mask" them more then anything.
I know there are a number of companies that will make subliminal tapes for you, and they can have the ocean waves, like you said, or they can have a music bed, or they can just have white noise.
These companies charge much too much money. One company want 29.95 NOT to put a lable on the tape ! (They call that a custom request !)
I'm looking to buy the equipment so I can make the tapes myself.
So any information you can forward would be appreciated. If you'd like you can email me direct at:

Thanks again for your reply.
