Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: Cakewalk--Roland VS-880, Im begging. Please. Help.
by nfared   |   05/01/01 at 20:09:04

I know Im new at this but...>:(Im about three seconds from just giving up and selling my equipment!  So my future is depending on response now, great.  The scary thing to me is that it may be such a simple solution.  Cakewalk pro 9 and roland vs-880--1 and 1/2 year novice on recording... doesn't mix well(in more than one way).  I cannot figure out how to record from the workstation to the cakewalk program, midi-wise.  I use a soundblaster live platinum Scard and I can hear playback from the roland to the soundcard.  I can sync and control the roland from cakewalk with that nifty lil panel. I can record analog and digital.  I think I'm missing a stupid little step and I can't figure it out :(
Please help me someone.

well i have the same setup and was working on it tonight. what i did was take my midi cables from my keyboard and plugged them in to the 880. then i had to adjust my sound card properties have you done that. i use a midiman sound card and I too was fustrated until i sat down and just kept working at it until it worked. good luck

I wish i had good luck. As Im typing right now I'm trying to record a track from the roland to cakewalk.  midi cables hooked. I set my card to channel one along with the vs 880.  midi device selected check the help sectio0n on playback one more time. Track armed in cakewalk. click MTC.  Click play/Record on CW9.  Ok.  I hear track from vs-880 through PC speakers. measure bars moving--time tempo sync matches. Ok.  Hey nice beat, 'glad I made it.
Ok I clicked stop on CW9--roland stops simontaneously. Bring it back to beginning on cakewalk and look, shows the track recorded I think since the tracks highlighted in yellow with what looks ike midi info.  Ok. Switch from mtc to Interior cross my fingers....click Play, dam!...all I hear is tic tic tic... What the hell is a tic tic tic.  I just heard a whole track play..I'm going to sleep really soon i can see it. >:(
