Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

I would appreciate any suggestions on doing upgrade improvements right the first time for the 1 man DAW studio:
-Have Pent II, Cakewalk Pro, Audiophile 2495 I/O, CD burner, modules, amps, GR1, mics, outboard gear, etc:
-Have a long overdue IRS windfall of $3000.00 to spend:
-Digital Mixer ?, Roland SPD20?, Cakewalk EFX plug ins ?, sampler ? --- What gear would you guys suggest to enhance a pretty basic DAW home studio to better quality/ease of use/production/etc.?
Been working with the basics for so long I've forgotten what I should spend money on.....Thanks !

You need to identify what you think are your weak links. Then perhaps we can suggest new toys, or maybe you'll realize that more gear may not be the way to go. Maybe your wife would like an eternity ring! Did I just say that? ;D

First of all, ditto what Dan said. Second, before you buy any toys max out your computers ram and get another big fast hard drive.

......and I agree with Old Dan. ;D
I just purchased 256Mb ram from http://www.crucial.com for only $98. I now have 512Mb ram. This really helps out when I have a lot of tracks in CEP. I'm also getting ready to get another 9 gig hard drive that I can use just for audio. Those are pretty cheap now too. http://www.overstock.com sells fully warrantied factory reconditioned hard drives much cheaper than brand new.
