Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: Problem with MIDI setup
by Reece   |   02/23/01 at 17:29:37

I have a problem with the MIDI on my computer.

I've hooked up my synthesizer to my computer and so far it hasn't been working. The hookup is right (I've checked it many times). What I am using is a Yamaha PSR-2700 synthesizer and Finale 98, and my computer is a Serviceworks Datatrain Pentium(r) with 48.0 MB RAM, running on Windows 95.

Please help. :-[

We need a little bit more info here. You really didn't say what wasn't working with the MIDI.
Is is not recording correctly when you play the keyboard or is the keyboard not receiving data from the computer?

The whole input and output between the computer and keyboard are not working. Neither the keyboard or the computer are not responding to each other and none of the instruments from the keyboard are showing up on the computer in Finale 98 like they are supposed to.

Since I dont know that program, I cant really help you with any setting that may be wrong.  Maybe you need to enable your MIDI port.  regardless...Read the two MIDI articles we have on this site and see if that helps you out.
