Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: Music, Gear and Pleasure

Hello there !
Warning! English still in construction! Pleazze forgive me ! )
I am making electro-acoustic music for several years and i use a lot my computer for it. But my soundcard (a bloody E-Mu APS) is definitely down and I got to think about a new set-up and I don't want anymore to have an all-in-one computer system. I have more pleasure playing on a keyboard, than fight against the PC in Cubase. At the same time, I am wondering if the sequencers/samplers are as easy to use than a "comfortable" edition on a screen – see what i mean ? Actually i dream using it both in an intelligent way. Is it possible ? What do I need ?
Here is basically the way I am making my music – nothing special i guess:
I start by cutting some samples in SoundForge add some effects until i cannot recognize them. Then I record some unexpected sounds with a DAT and a mic. After this stuff, i create some melodies with a Groovebox. I also replay these melodies through MIDI with sounds from the computer (until now i used SoundFonts). Finally, I put all that in Cubase to arrange and mix the track. Here is the plot: I really would like to skip this last step and use a "real" machine instead...
Gimme some input please, as I really do need !
Sorry for being that long but I got the feeling that this question about finding the right gear to get pleasure from electronica is something that could be interesting for a lot of people... at least i guess... Making electronic music doesn't have to be optimizing computers and installing the last pach...
Thanks for reading anyway !
