Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: Angry with Alesis
by J.G.   |   04/18/01 at 15:09:52

After a long debate, in February I finally decided to spend my hard earned $ on an Alesis Masterlink instead of a regular CD burner. Now I'm having problems with the hardrive. The damn thing won't start.

I've tried to contact Alesis' technical support via phone & e-mail. No response. I've contacted some of their authorized repair shops. Some said they wouldn't honor Alesis' warranty because Alesis hasn't paid them for their past services. One shop in particular said he sent someone else's ML to the factory to be repaired some time back and he hasn't heard a word from them since. Now he has to tell the poor guy that he may never see his ML again.

So I'm stuck with this overpriced burner that won't work. I don't know what to do. I'm afraid to send it to any shop for fear they may send it to the factory. I know Alesis is currently restructoring but the customer service sucks. I just want to let every one out there know what's going on.

That sucks and I'm sorry to hear it.  Last fall someone raved to me about their Masterlink and how easy it is to use, and I came real close to buying one.  I'm glad I didn't!

I do like my Alesis monitors though...

You know what J.G.?  You have no idea how glad i am to finally hear a definitive report on the ML!  I own some Alesis stuff, and generally speaking, i like thier stuff. That's why i considered the ML myself!  I asked a lot of questions to some VERY knowledgeable engineers that use it. I couldn't get a good report.  The best i heard was, "it's o.k." and i thought for $1400 it damn sure better be more than just "O.K."!  I've seen the rave reviews by the likes of Roger Nichols and others, but as great as Roger is, he sure prostitutes himself for endorsements to an extreme, therefore, i was suspicious!  Additionally, i concur with your assessment of Alesis's customer service and support!  I guess I owe ya one!  I almost made that mistake too!  Hang in there man,...we all make bad purchases in retrospect.  Too bad that was such a pricey one.  Once again, it just goes to show ya the validity in the statement, "caveat emptor"!  (buyer beware!) Guess i'll just have to spend that extra cash on some more outboard gear huh?
