Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: Need help with to achieve a desired Volume on PC.

Hey,
I have been editing tracks in SoundForge 5.0 and getting a really nice sound but when I get everything to the way I want it (EQ COMP EFFECTS) I can't seem to get a good enough volume. I get the mix on the complete set of tracks done and it sounds great even when compared to PRO Recordings yet it's just to quiet. I've tried maximizing, compressing, staight Db Gain and it gets terribley distorted before I get anywhere near the volume I desire.
Even after burning it to cda it's quiet in every stereo system I put it in. The recording levels are near the headroom without over cliping.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.
We are recording on to an ALESIS LX20 and transfering into pc VIA the Optical ADAT Edit Card.

I'm using the graphic and paragraphic eq's that come with sound forge 5.0 under the process menu. I'm also using the WAVE HAMMER compressor that is in the effects menu. We use some delays (Cakewalk Plugins) reverbs that come with SF and Cakewalk. It may help if you listen to a track that I worked on.
