Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

That' a loaded question.
a)2 good microphones(large diaphram condensor & a shure sm57)and a couple of stands
b)1 good compressor (2-channel)
c)1 effects processor
d)A mixdown deck of some sort (DAT,C.D burner e.t.c.
e)A pair of monitors and perhaps a pair of alternate speakers as well

I have 2 compaints about this. One, can your Subject be a little more vague? 2, go do some research. Have a starting point more than I want to set up a studio, what do I need?
I want a million dollars, what do I need to do?

Like E-money said, that's a little vague. What kind of music do you want to do and how much you want to spend.
There's a lot of very smart and talented people here (genuis's even) who can help you get exactly what you need. But you need to solidify your goals first. And then let us know :)

If you play an instrument and sing along, get a little 4 track porta-studio, under 500.00, budled with a mic, tape, instruction book, and phones, and learn the ropes. If you can't do it with the 4 track, than a DAW isn't going to do it either. If you are successful, you will know what gear to look for, it will then be "which pre?, or what soundcard?, or, How is this monitor?" etc..
