Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Cool Edit recommends the following based on your computer's memory:

64Mb - 8192 cache
96Mb - 12288 cache
128Mb - 16384 cache
256Mb - 32768 cache
512Mb - 32768 cache

So it looks like you were on the right track. You could try using a higher amount, they recommend experimenting to see how your performance varies. I just found on my system that I was set dreadfully low....  with 256Mb I was at 4096 cache. I'm going to try higher now and see if I notice any improved performance........
