Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

...or other Vegas Audio users.  Hi JR- I just installed SF Vegas Audio & I'm expecting to get my wave 8/24 card Friday.  You had mentioned that Vegas is a better way to mix what you recorded into CEP.  I was wondering, have you ever tracked right to Vegas, bypassing CEP?  Any comments?
Thanks,
Maury

I rarely track to CEP unless I'm extracting from a CD or doing one track stuff. CEP's metering is useless for tracking to more than 1 track. Hence, I track directly to Vegas most of the time or Samplitude, whichever program I have installed at the time. If I'm using Vegas, I assign CEP as the designated editor. Samplitude does editing, so no need to assign one. I've never had a problem tracking to Vegas, but the most I've done at once was 4 tracks. I have the ability to track to 8, but haven't tried it yet.

Thanks JR!   I'm going to try 8 at once when I get my new soundcard.  I appreciate your advice- Have a good day-

Hey JR,

What do you mean by "CEP's metering is useless for tracking to more than 1 track."? Is it that you don't like the level meters close together at the bottom of the screen when doing multitrack?

.....just curious....

I don't like the shade of red they use. It reminds me of a bad childhood experience with a bottle of applesauce and a bag of red hots. That, and I don't like not being able to monitor individual track levels when recording more than 1 track at a time.

Hi there !!

I use Cakewalk pro audio 9 for multi tracking and each recording tracks have a meter in studioware. It's very nice to see what's going in !

.....aaaaahhhh, but you can. This is a trick I just learned from Gary and consulting the CEP online PDF manual.

When in the multitrack screen, just go to the lower right and RIGHT mouse click on the clip indicators. Then select the option to "Show on Play and Record". When you arm your various track inputs, you will see a new meter appear at the bottom. I just learned this a couple of weeks ago. I really like this feature because you can now monitor the indiviual track inputs instead of muting each track and monitoring the output. If I wouldn't have seen Gary do this I would have never found out.....   Thanks Gary!

Thanks Steve (thank Gary for me) - I never would have thought of that either!  Another perfect example of just how resourceful this board is!

Welcome me to the club!!! hehe:P  I just wish there was something they could do about the shade of red....
