Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Subject: analog reel to reel

I was wondering if anyone here was mixing down to analog reel to reel.
I just blew the dust off my old Revox A77 1/2" tape machine(insert joke here):o
It sounds great, except there seems to be a little "pitch" thing happening.
On playback,I can hear it waver slightly. It's subtle, but enough to be annoying. It's particularily noticeable on sustained notes.

I have Fostex B-16 16-channel recorder and it works fine. I dont use it anymore...!!
You have to take you reel machine to service or something, I believe it was too long aside, and the motor is too old..Try to replace it if you find the same or supstitute motor

Hey Dolphin; Your problem might be old rubber, (the drive belt & pinch roller), and maybe some sticky tape too. BTW, did you ever find the extender for your a&H? If not , ask here.

Dude, I doubt it is a motor problem, and suspect that the pinch roller thing is probably correct. most of those studer-revox decks won't run at all if they are not going to run right (some electronic thing about voltage control). Way back, mine wouldn't move,..I called the tech, he camse, and said the voltage had gotten off far enough where it automatically refused to go. He just used a tweeker and it was off again. later, Puke
