Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Alright, I can't seem to locate a link to the lyrics for The Old Canoe.  Could someone please post them here for reference.  I will copy and then save for anyone that needs them (translation:  I lost my copy and need another)

The Old Canoe    Copyright 2001   John Hagius

   Perched atop a granite cliff,
I look up toward the sky...
   A thousand leafless branches,
Frame dark clouds on the fly.
While far below, lodged in the rocks,
   Adrift and rotting through,
   Lifeless and untended now,
   I see the old canoe.

   (chorus)
   I remember, as if yesterday,
And I know that you do too...
Our journeys down the gentle stream,
   In the old canoe.

   Sunlight on the water's edge,
   Filtering through the trees...
   We drifted with the current,
   Your perfume on the breeze.
A subtle nudge on draping limbs
   Avoided jagged stones.
   So, easily, we skirted past
   Hazards yet unknown.

   (repeat chorus)

   (bridge)
But winds and thunder rocked us hard,
   As life's storms sometimes do...
   Dashing us on rocky shores,
   They swamped the old canoe.

And so it lays among the rocks,
   Untended and alone...
I watch it from my lonely ledge,
   Still wedged between the stones.
And I think back on those lovely days,
   The lilting laugh I knew...
   While drifting careless, floating free,
   Down endless streams with you.

   (tag)
   Floating down those gentle streams
   In the old canoe...

NOTE: In follow-up postings, which included John Hagius, it was mentioned that the song does not have to be a word-for-word rendering of the poem.
