Subject: Help with lexicon core 2
by Healeysmd | 04/02/01 at 20:47:50
Hi, I recently purchased a lexicon core 2 sound card. What I want to do is put my 4 drum mics into a mixer, then have that mixer goto the stereo ins (Im not even sure, to be honest, if the core 2 has stereo ins, I saw then listed on the information though when I bought it). Also, will I be able to directly plug in a mic to the break-out box? I wasn't too sure about it, I figured I could, but then again I don't want to ruin it, I am definately a newbi to the whole computer recording deal, I'm graduating from my old 4-track portastudio, any help is appreciated.

The core 2 has four seperate inputs (in theory 2 sets of stereo)
Depending on the software you are using, everything should
work fine for you. I don't know about the running the mic in
to the breakout box though, it certainly won't hurt it but I
don't know if there is enough signal strength without a pre-amp

I recently bought and currently using a Lexicon Core2. I mic all my drums on a mixer then run it into two of the inputs as a stereo file. These inputs can be used as either 2 stereo inputs, or 4 mono inputs. You can specify how you want them to record ,either as stereo or mono, in your recording program. As for running the mic into the breakout box, I have done this alot and I'm please with the results. It doesn't ruin it, and if you adjust the input level on the input you're using in Lexicon Studio, under the Core2 tab, you can get the volume up as loud as you'd like it. I use a good XLR to 1/4" converter, and I'm able to get plenty of volume without using a preamp. I hope this helped.

Have any of you guys had probs. with your core 2 cards? I remember a while back nobody could get them to work because of driver problems. Hence, the sudden drop price last year.

I had problems with the drivers straight away. Also if it didn't
install the first time around and you tried again, it really messed
things up. The download drivers didn't work either, so I called the
company and within a couple days they had a new installation
CD at my door that cured everything
