Welcome to the Recording Forums archive of audio recording posts from the old Recording Website Message Board

Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

I want to suggest a sub-t 8.
How about an all analogue album? No digital recording OR processing. Mastered completely in analogue form & printed in analogue form (like 33 or cassette).

Personally, I like the idea of a challenge. But you know a lot of folks will complain they don't have any analogue equip. Huh, I just had an idea. how about this. Subt VIII would be a 2 cd job. One cd all analogue, 1 all digital. What do you think?
Take care,
Dan

Although I don't like the idea of going through the trouble of an all analogue recording when it's going to wind up on CD. I was hoping to put it on 33. You're right about the complaints and perhaps Sub-T 8 would just be like #1 where everybody just sends whatever they want and save analogue for #9.

I was thinking of submitting a short instrumental piece for SubT8, and I kind of like the analog idea, but my analog gear is in disrepair, and I can't justify the expense of fixing it. Tascam 48 w/ blown record head (DOH!); Teac 33-40s, all channels sound like breakfast, either bacon or rice krispies. A lot of people may either not have analog stuff or it doesn't work that well anymore.

That's where ingenuity comes in. For about a year I recoreded everything directly to Hi-Fi VHS through my analogue mixer. As far a reverb went, I either used the natural room acoustics or patched into a guitar amp w/ a spring pan. Really just about everybody can do an all analogue recording, it's just figuring out how.

Did you use a standard Hi-Fi VHS deck?

Yes
