Home recording and general music post from the archived Yabb Recording Website Message Board. Some of the info here may be outdated but many of the audio recording and home studio tips are still good. Note: The only tags I made and attempt to convert are italics, bold, center and underline. So if you see some gibberish surrounded by brackets, just ignore it.

Interesting post by my old buddy Mr. Half a Brain. The unanswered post thing is just something that will happen. I don't like to see it but not much I can do about it, short of answering them myself. Which I don't have the time or knowledge to do.
But (and this is scary) I agree with Mr. Hab that maybe combining the boards is a good idea. The traffic is still there (about a 1,000 hits a day) but it's scattered so it looks like there's less.
So here's the different plans, vote on your favorite:
1. combine the recording board and the beginners board.
2. combine the recording board, beginners board and music board.
3. Leave things as they are
Going back to the old board isn't really an option. Sorry, but this new server makes it too hard to reinstall. Plus it was becoming a nightmare to keep up.
Let me know what you think.
Take care,
Dan

Of the 10 posts 1/2 brain has made since this new board has been up, in only 2 has he given advice and 2 were complaints about this board. He has a lot of nerve whining about how little advice others are giving. Posters are giving the best advice they can, given their knowledge and schedules.
IMO keep the boards seperate, it makes for more clarity and allows people to find what they want without it being buried in an avalanche of threads.

well, as I've stated before, I like the idea of just combining all 3 boards. so few people use the music board, it does't make much difference. The beginner's board gets some decent traffic but mostly beginners use that one so the advice isn't as insightfull as here.

OK here's mine... from the post I just read over there in the beginners area, it appears that there are some good technical questions deserving some good technical answers, in other words some of ther questions would benefit anyone.
Also since we probably won't ever consider ourselves advanced or pro's in this quest for perfection, I sort of feel like this hobby is better approached as if none of us know it all (cause we don't).
I vote that you merge, the line is fuzzy anyway!
thanks for asking... s'boy

:) I like the order of the new board, don't worry folk's, there will be plenty of HOT discussions going on, especially when you can use the "Quotes" feature, it is just an adjustment period. I think the beginners board could be combined. I also like the difference of the topics on the music board, and would like that to be seperate, Ally, and others, raise interesting questions that can only relate to the performer/writer, and should not be buried in tech jargon.

I would say combine the boards especialy if it is easier to take care of the board.
But I dont think it will help the things that have brought you to this question.
The board looks great and I would like give a big thanks to you dan for putting all of this
together. It looks beutiful:)

I agree with Gary. The new look and format is much nicer. I especially like that active threads are kept at the top, and inactive ones die quickly.
I also agree that you should combine all three boards. I think it is much easier to open up one forum than to have to go to three different ones. Also, I know I never look at the beginner forum, yet I may be able to help in some cases. Why not post those questions where they are going to get the most views. I just think it is easier to put them all together.
Regardless, I think you have done a wonderful job in improving this site Dan.

I'll vote to keep the boards as they are. I really like the ability to just scan the board I want to at one time.

I vote to combine the Beginners with the Recording board...but to leave the Music Board seperate. I believe that before, there were some here on the Recording board that really didn't appreciate the music type comments included here because it really didn't pertain to them. I think new visitors would probably also rather not have to sort through extra music content when they are looking for recording content and vise versa. There seem to be genuine differences in the music board and this recording board so I vote to leave it seperate but to combine the Beginners with this one.:)

I also plan to become much more active with the music board once I get more time. There are things I believe I can offer there and not alot I can offer here. My experience is more in the business part of Music and not so much in the Recording part of it.

combining the Beginners board with this one would be ok if it's
not too much work. On the other hand if it ain't broke...

:)
I like the idea of combining a few of them. I'm here off & on but more often than not ... and this format (as much as I really like it) seems a little too segmented.
But its still really great!

So far it seems the best idea would be to combine the beginners board and the recording forum. I like that idea too. I'll do that tonite, should only take about 10 or 15 minutes (I love this board!)
I'll also get ahold of Devin and see about getting the manufacturers forum active. I'll also look at simplifing the catagories. Life is good.
Thanks,
Dan
