I guess it's just a matter of taste. I like all Metallica albums during the 1980's. Puppets and Justice are my favorites... but I also think that Ride and Kill are great albums in their own right.
I think Metallica reached their pinnacle during the Master and Justice years (1986-1989). After that.. they abandoned their progressive songwriting and favored a more "MTV friendly" song structure. Oh well... nothing lasts forever.
