Man, I never warm up. That will make me more nervous than just about anything. The best technique I ever found (and in a percussion pit, this is easy) is to give yourself 5 minutes LESS time than you need to set up all the equipment. That way, you spend so much time thinking about practical things that jitters just don't have a chance. (Mostly....)
But here's something--go to our now up and running Amazon search box (the Need Gear page) and find the book called "The Inner Game of Music". It used to be a tennis book, but so many musicians were using it and swearing by it, that they came up with one just for us. Basically, it talks about how we all freak ourselves out and how our brains get in the way of our music. And it gives bunches of techniques and simple little tricks to get your mind and your body to play what you know you can play. (It's very thorough, but still a very easy read, BTW.) It's written mostly from a classical musician's standpoint, but jitters are still jitters, you know?
Of course you could just check it out of the library too, but that's not the Capitalist Way.
