I have a friend of mine back in my boston days when I was in a band there whose band used TAXI when the thing first started up.
First off they aren't an upfront ripoff but I'm not too keen on them - - it's been around for upwards of 7-8 years now and have you heard ANY major artist say "Thank you TAXI"?? No you haven't. They come thru with what they promise, giving reviews and submitting material at a pretty hefty fee, but, no one ever gets anything beyond that with them it seems.
If you want some good pointed criticism of your tunes heck you can send them to me and I can be just as much as a dickhead it seems they are in making comments. The experience some of my friends have had with them are that they pretty much shoot everything you have down with criticism and needed "improvements" before they will "submit" anything for you.
Franky, I've seen them around quite some time now and have seen zero major success stories so I'd be pretty leary of it.
I never paid to play - and you should pay to get submitted.
Gotta do it the old fashioned way - make aquaintences get contacts, network. play out etc etc etc get fucking real lucky and MAYBE you will get signed. Nothing beats real business relationships, those always win over some anonymous person paying a service to submit material to a label.
As Chris Cross would sing...."It's Just the way it is"
