I usually come up with tons of words...one liners, etc..that I think sound good...but never seem to find a melody with them. If I come up with a melody first...I can usually finish the song...but if I try to do lyrics first...it never seems to work. So I go with finding a melody first..try to fit a mood to the music to set the stage for the lyrics.
