The majority of the people that I know in the professional recording business have college degrees and not recording school certificates. Predominantly music degrees with some sort of recording/technology emphasis or tract. I know a ton of people with recording certificates from various schools and very few of them can land a job in a professional studio. Project studios are a different breed because many times the owner is the head engineer. Keep this in mind.. a college degree...any college degree... can get you in a lot more doors in any field. Even if it's in something totally unrelated to the job you're applying. That's just the way the job market is.

One of the problems I've seen with people doing the recording school route is that they rack up huge loans and end up making minimum wage when they're done trying to get their foot in the door. And it's only going to get worse as technology increases, the number of people wanting to be in the industry increases, and prices decrease.
