The RME Digi 96/8 Pst at around $325 is by far the best card out right now. I have not heard it yet, but apparently it rivals some of the higher end converters like Apogee and Lucid. Another REALLY great sounding card is the LynxONE. I have two of them and they are excellent cards. They are a bit more at around $425.

The RME also has ADAT lightpipe for future flexibility, but has no midi I/O.

The LynxONE has two Midi ports (which I use).

You definitely cannot go wrong with either of these cards.
