1. I think it would be fine to combine the two. I have no problem with any musically related subjects being posted at this forum.

2. I have never used the archives. I would like to see the older posts drop off a bit earlier though (or move to the top, see below).

3. Like I said I never have used them so I can't really comment there.

I really like the forums where the most recent posts rise to the top. That way an older post can remain active for sometime. With this kind of set-up posts that are a week or so old, get lost and forgotten very quickly.
