Noisy Tubes |
I'm moving beyond cassette four tracking and finally getting around to laying down some "keeper" electric guitar tracks onto my VS-880 (the older one). I'm recording in an extremely dead room using an SM-57 pointed slightly in toward the edge of the speaker cone. I'm playing through a Peavey Tube Amp turned up to about 7, and the mic is picking up some horrible noise.
One of the noises is definitely the tubes rattling around any time a note gets below a certain frequency. I can hear this when I am in the room with the amp. The other noise sounds like a fast clicking or some static which occurs any time a note is played. My levels are nowhere near 0 dB. I cannot hear this noise when I'm in with the amp. I only hear it through the headphones (or monitors) in my "monitoring room", AKA baby's nursery.
Are noisy tubes a problem for everyone?
Any ideas on what the other noise could be? The end of the SM-57 is loose, and I've seen some with tape on the ends. Could this be it?
Thanks for any help.
