But first things first. You don't have enough memory. 128 is a minumum for Cubase, more is better. The good news is memory is real cheap right now.
Second of all you have too much stuff on your computer. When you get Cubase you can get rid of Samplitude and Cool Edit. Probably Acid and Rebirth too. Course I could be wrong, I only have half a brain after all.
As far as sequencers go imnsho Ensonig makes the best but they ain't cheap. Probably used would be the way to go. and remember the 3 rules of life: you can never be too thin, too rich or have enough channels (audio or midi).
Actually getting Cubase and more memory will solve a lot of your problems and give you a whole bunch of new ones. When you're fitting things together just remember the computer is the recording machine, like a reel to reel or DAT. Build around that.
this probably didn't help a whole lot but at least I got to answere a post. Now if no one flames me life will be good.
