Microphone Preamplifiers

Posted by DJ Graffiti on December 25, 2000 at 05:20:25 AM:

I am doing multitrack recording onto a PC Workstation. I just bought a dbx 386 (dual channel digital mic preamp with spdif output), and realized once I got home that I was actually looking to get the 376 (single channel digital mic preamp wth spdif, compressor, 3 band eq and de-esser). Now that I'm taking this unit back to exchange, I wonder if it would be better for me to buy a Neumman TLM103 and run the mic through my Behringer mixing board (instead of using the dbx and going directly into my PC through SPDIF at 24/96), finally doing all the compression/de-essing with software plugins on the PC? I am trying to get the best sound quality I can right now... (My current mic is an Oktava MK319)
