I would pay a bit more and go for a DAW recording system like the digi001, but there are many more out there. I was in the same situation a couple of months ago, and after countless tryouts, I end up buying the digidesign's digi001($799), that comes with the PCI I/O card,I/O the module: 8 inputs, 8 outputs, the optical port to conect to ADAT, and MIDI I/O.
It also comes with ProTools LE, that is a great software to record on your computer. check it out at http://www.digidesign
