I have one of these(688) and you can get decent results with it allthough I also have an MD8 and the difference is HUGE as far as recording quality goes. On the otherhand, the board on a 688 is amazing once you learn all the electronic switching shit. You could easily hook a 688 up to a decent recorder as SEAN suggests if you can pick one up cheap as I like the board on my 688 more than a MACKIE 1604 that I borrow from a friend from time to time. The cassette recoder on my 688 has a flutter problem that is apparently common on these units.It sounds likr crap when this happens and is faily expensive to fix. Like I said though, geat board.
