Depending on how accomodating your wife is, you could record in different rooms around the house. One of my guitarists sticks his guitar amp in his workshop, and tracks on the other side of the basement. Any room can sound better with treatment, and a lot worse with too much. Aurelex is a little pricey. Look into Markertek too, they have dirt cheap foam and "blade tiles" that I used in my room, and it worked out to be $265US.
I'm lucky in that I have wooden walls, with strategically placed foam, so I get a good mix of live/dead.
