Hmmm, that really surprises me. I had heard that the 4047 had a much warmer "vintage" sound, but I've never heard one. While the ART isn't the greatest mic pre in the world, it should still be good enough to A/B the two mics and hear the main differences.
Like I said before Maury, I love my AT4050. Have you had a chance to listen to one of them? Another mic you should give serious listen to is the Shure KSM-32. A lot of top name pros are giving this mic good reviews. Roger Nichols, at his forum, says he has 4 of them, uses all of them and wants more.
The AT4033 is still an excellent mic though. You won't be doing bad with that mic.
Thanks for the update. Do you still have the 4047? Are you going to do anymore tests?
