This very subject was discussed by Billy Joeland George Martin during the recent program series. They were pointing out that virtually all (western)melodies are combinations of only 12 differant tones. And that it's pretty hard to come up with somethingthat sounds completely differant than anything that'sbeen done before. Billy Joel pointed out that he realized, after the fact, that the melody for'Uptown Girl' had been unintentionaly 'ripped off' from Mozart. But really the 'packaging'- thearrangement made the song unique. He mearly said that he no longertries to second guess where an idea came from.He did not offer to send any share of the royaltiesto the Mozart clan...... However, if you've gotdeep pockets like George Harrison someone might stretch a judges immagination enough to thinkthat 'My Sweet Lord' was ripped off from 'He'sSo Fine'. Probably you shouldn't let it worryyou or stiffle your creative activities.
