the change in my life has been by the contact of all the friendly enthusiasts (including yourself) making real music in the real world. And I've learned a ton reading these posts.
Regarding the computer stuff. Yes, if you get hip to desktop computers, all the other stuff will be a lot easier, and digital is the name of the revolution, so you can't go wrong.
I'm not a PC recordist, but I guess I will be sometime. Right now, I'm using a standalone hard disk recorder (rack type) with DAT for mixdown and archiving. Will work in a DAW when I can.
