Silent Bob is right on. A consumer speaker system can have as much as a 6db boost in the low end designed into the speaker because that is what sells. When I mix I start on a good set of speakers and then try a boom box and my car. You might also take a commercial CD and run that through your system to give you a reference to mix to. To me, getting the mix right is the toughest most frustrating part of the process. Keep at it and you will get there. Hope this help.
