I'm thrilled that Santana is getting some much deserved media out of this, but I believe the Grammys may be more of an anti-endorsement these days.
For Gods sake, look at the competition. The mere circumstance (although not a circumstance at all from the $$$$$ made by the best album nominees) of his selection was more of a nod to the album sales and the ever growing latino population (weren't going to ignore this fact forever were we?). Honestly, I don't believe the selection has anything to do with art or even technique any more. I hope that we can all judge the merits of musical artists by their talent, hard work and integrity and avoid buying into the cash cow supermarket mentality that has dominated the Grammys.
No disrespect. I believe that the artist chosen was worthy of high praise. I just don't believe a Grammy is high praise. Probably hasn't been since Henry Mancini was taking them all home.
