The 8*24 is overkill for this purpose as he will only need a good stereo soundcard. However if you plan to expand to multitracking on DAW then this may be a good choice. I basically do exactly what you do, only I use two ADATs. So I mix 16 tracks through a Mackie SR-24 into a LynxONE card to Wavelab at 24 bits, where I edit, master and burn to CD.

I would highly recommend the LynxONE card for 24bit mixes to comp. However, the Lynx does not come with any recording/editing software. I don't think any of the "lite" versions that come with soundcards will do the full job for you. For what you are wanting to do, I would suggest either Wavelab, Red Roaster or Sound Forge/CD Architect. The latter being the most popular, but also the most expensive. If these programs are too costly for your budget right now, then you could use something like NTrack which can be downloaded at www.fasoft.com for a shareware version, or for a very reasonable fee, can be registered for the full use version. With NTrack you could use Adaptec or Nero for burning your CD's. I am not sure if either of these programs really burn to Red Book specs, but the newer versions may. This would be your cheapest option to start with. If $$$ are not a big issue, I use and really like Wavelab, and it does it all.

Good Luck
