The EP tracking range is pretty narrow the way it is and if recordings were on a manchine with warn out heads, the the tracking range will be even smaller. If you can find the machine the recordings were made on, that would be your best bet. You could also try using a non-autotracking deck... specifically one that has a knob for adjusting tracking and, if you can find one, a deck that has a sub-tracking knob. Decks that have buttons for adjusting tracking don't work very well because the adjustments are in increments and are prone to wandering. The specs for EP aren't standardized like they are for SP, so you might be out of luck.
